G-B rains cause Rs7.45b losses

Damages included Rs4.2 worth of private property and Rs3.38 worth of government property

ISLAMABAD:

The Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) said on Sunday the recent calamitous rains and subsequent flash floods killed 17 people, injured another 6 and swept away at least 720 houses in the region.

In its report about the damages caused by the floods, the GBDMA said that the total losses so far in G-B amount to Rs7.45 billion, which included Rs4.2 worth of private property and Rs3.38 worth of government property.

The destroyed house were valued at Rs140 million, according to the report. Over, the report said, 22 power houses, 49 highways, 78 drinking water supplies, 500 irrigation canals, 56 bridges were also affected by the rains and floods.
