Army helicopters rescue stranded families in Swat

Rescue operations in other flood-hit areas continue; flood relief donation account established

SWAT:

Four special army aviation helicopters on Sunday rescued 110 stranded people from Khawazakhela to Kanju Cantt in Swat, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

According to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), “these people are being provided with meals and are being given necessary medical assistance.”

“The stranded people who were struck at [the[ mountain top in Kumrat will be evacuated by army helicopters specially flown from Kamju Cantt, Swat, as soon as the weather permits,” the ISPR said.

It furthered a flood relief control centre has been established by Dir scouts and directed people to contact them on the following numbers for assistance in case of an emergency: 0309-1311310, 0323-5780067 and 0945-825526

The military has urged the people not to travel towards Swat and surrounding areas due to flash floods.

Stranded families in Kumrat rescued

The military’s media wing also informed that: “Pakistan Army troops have reached on ground Khana Bodosh site where families were stranded.”

It stated that follow-up army troops had crossed Barikot. “Pakistan army aviation helicopters have flown and are on their way to the location,” it added.

Relief operation in Rajanpur

The ISPR said a relief operation was undertaken by the Pakistan Army in District Rajanpur, Punjab, and flood-affected victims were provided with ration bags and tents.

The army continued rescue and relief operations in all flood-hit areas of districts Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur.

“Pakistan Army teams rescued [a] number of people stranded in [the] affected area, including women and children, along with their belongings and shifted them to the safer places,” said the ISPR.

The press release further maintained, “People living in relief camps are being provided with cooked food and dry ration. Pakistan Army is utilising all available resources to help the flood-affected people including immediate medical care at the medical camps set up by [the] army.”

Earlier, Pakistan Army rescued 22 tourists who had gone from Islamabad and got struck in Kumrat valley in Upper Dir of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

In order to help the flood victims, 7,522 Pakistan Army troops have been deployed along with 50 boats, whereas 25 field medical camps have also been established. As many as 25,000 patients have been treated so far.

Flood relief donation account established

Pakistan Army has also established a flood relief donation account after government authorisation to help assist the flood victims.
