KARACHI:

Vegetable and fruit supply to Karachi has been disrupted because of the heavy rains and floods in Sindh and Balochistan, amrket sources told The Express Tribune on Thursday.

The prices of vegetables in the port city have increased by thrice. The increase in vegetable prices was witnessed in Karachi markets since the beginning of the monsoon season, however, the continous closure of farm to market roads and the later floods have devastated the agriculture sector.

Before the downpour in Karachi, onions were selling at Rs80 per kilogram, which are now retailing at an eyewatering rate of Rs250/kg. Tomatoes are also being sold at Rs200/kg after the heavy rains in Sindh and Balochistan. Similarly, the prices of other vegetables have increased up to three times.
