Introducing siren eye, the sultriest makeup trend since the smokey eye
A single scroll through TikTok will tell you the reign of "clean girl" makeup has ended. And bright dopamine eyeshadows are here to up your boring old liner game, channelling a new wave of razzmatazz. Enter ‘siren eyes’, one of the biggest makeup trends to have come out of the app off late. The fresh take on the classic cat eye, siren eyes is a smoked-out, elongated eyeliner look that reads “sultrier than doe-eyed,” as per InStyle.
Searches for the sultry makeup look increased by 5,000% in June, as per Vogue, and by July, the hashtag #SirenEyes received over 138.6 million views on TikTok. While tutorials on how to create the look have routinely popped up, celebrities have also brought the trend to the red carpet.
Tips for the look
Nick Lujan, Director of Artistry and Education at Kevyn Aucoin Beauty says to "start small, using light matte shades and then build into the drama with dark shades." Take your contour kit and apply the light shade all over, the medium matte shade from the lash line to the crease, and then the deep matte shade to draw on the soft, smoky liner with a wing.
Ash K Holm, Buxom Cosmetics Global Celebrity Makeup Artist recommends that for definition, tightline the eyes with a long-wear black eyeliner pencil. "Create an outer corner wing liner with the same pencil," she says. "You don't have to worry about making it perfect because siren eyes are smudged, making the look easier to achieve.”
Types of Siren Eyes you can work around
Reverse siren eyes
Take ques from Zendaya on how to rock the latest look, upside down. Instead of drawing a heavy line on her top lash line, the celebrity wore an inky reverse siren eye for a cool twist on the sultry trend. And might we add, it worked like a charm.
Tightline siren eyes
Bella Hadid knows how to amalgamate her Y2K-inspired style into the siren eyes trend. Here, the model has tightlined her eyes, and smoked out a wing with matte chocolate brown shadow. The look compliments her wide set, upturned eyes perfectly!
Negative space siren eyes
Here, Ash K Holm incorporated two trends in one on Shay Mitchell. The makeup artist elongated both the inner and outer corners of the star's eyes with winged liner, then channelled the dopamine eyeshadow trend by adding a wine-colored wing just below her brow bone.
Soft siren eyes
If you don’t want to go for bold brown or black eyeshadows, feel free to opt for mauve or muted pink tones. That's exactly what Lily-Rose Depp did to finish her tightline siren eyes look.
Siren eyes with a pop of colour
Makeup artist Sir John, adding his own touch to the trend, came out with this mutation of the trend. In lieu of a matte neutral shadow, he swept a shimmery copper shade across the eyelid, then lined the upper and lower lash lines, extending the wing upwards and outwards, creating this look for all goddesses out there.
