CM wants flood relief expedited
Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi CM directed all institutions on Wednesday to expedite the rescue and relief operation for the flood-affected people in a coordinated manner.
Presiding over a Disaster Management Ministerial Committee meeting, he instructed Chief Secretary Kamran Afzal to visit the affected areas forthwith and oversee the relief activities.
The relief activities in the flood-affected areas in Rajanpur, Taunsa and Dera Ghazi Khan came under review.
The chief minister called for expediting the rescue and relief operation and said all institutions should help the affected people in unison.
He said an unexpected deluge had come into the streams of Koh-e-Sulaiman due to torrential rains.
He vowed that the Punjab government would not leave any stone unturned to help the affected people in the prevailing situation.
It was decided that the financial aid for the heirs of the people killed due to heavy flood and rains would be increased.
The chief minister said the government would redress the losses caused because of damage to houses, fields and the livestock.
He issued directives for timely provision of food to the people in the relief camps along with other essential facilities, including dry edibles and food hampers.
Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi directed the authorities to increase the number of medical camps in order to prevent infectious diseases in the affected areas.
He said the livestock department should ensure provision of additional fodder for the animals.
Provincial Minister Muhammad Basharat Raja, Syed Abbas Ali Shah, Sardar Asif Nakai, Ali Afzal Sahi, Dr Akhtar Malik, Brig (retd) Ejaz Shah, Chief Secretary Kamran Afzal and other officials concerned attended the meeting.
