Committee to appoint heads of education boards

CM expresses satisfaction on the performance of search committee

KARACHI:

Sindh government has decided to hand over the appointment of chairpersons, secretaries and controller examinations in education boards of the province to a search committee.

In this regard, the Department of Universities and Boards prepared a summary and sent it to the Chief Minister of Sindh, the controlling authority of universities. Secretary Universities and Boards Mureed Rahimoon have sent a recommendation to form a search committee for the province's public universities and education boards under the Search Committee Act 2022 in summary.

Chief Minister Sindh and Provincial Minister for Universities and Boards are satisfied with the search committee's recent process in connection with the appointment of Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi. Therefore, the search committee, formed under the Sindh Assembly, is given authority to select candidates for positions as heads of educational boards. The controlling authority has the final authority to appoint the heads of education boards.

The search committee formed under the chairmanship of the Higher Education Commission, Sindh, will also select suitable candidates for appointing chairman education boards, secretary and controller examinations.

According to the summary, Chairman Higher Education Commission Sindh will be the head of the search committee. Dr Tariq Rafi currently holds this position. Besides, Secretary Universities and Boards, Secretary College Education will be members of the committee, while Secretary or Executive Director Sindh HEC will be the secretary and member of the search committee. The respective co-opted member will be included in the General Universities, Medical Universities, Engineering Universities and IBA committee.

According to the summary, a search committee will publish the advertisement, conduct interviews and shortlist suitable candidates for the chairman's appointment, controller examination and secretary education Boards. The search committee has the power to appoint new persons instead of the officers who have held the post of chairman for two or more consecutive times under the rules and regulations while issuing the advertisement.
