Imran accused of ‘inciting people’ against state institutions

Application filed to register case against PTI chief for using hate speech against army, judiciary and police officers

ISLAMABAD:

An application for a case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, accusing him of inciting people to revolt against state institutions, has been submitted in the federal capital on Sunday. 

The application was filed by Advocate Zia Ur Rahman in the Model Police Station Ramna, wherein he accused Imran of using hate speech against the army, judiciary and police officers during the PTI rally in Islamabad’s F-9 park yesterday (Saturday).

Advocate Ziaur Rahman claimed that the former premier is "creating public pressure" so that decisions will be made in favour of his party and workers.

The petition stated that on Saturday Imran Khan announced that the PTI will file a case against Islamabad’s Inspector General (IG) Dr Akbar Nasir Khan, deputy inspector general (DIG) and Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry, who remanded the accused PTI leader Shahbaz Gill.

Rahman termed the threat to file a case against the magistrate an "act of terrorism". He claimed that Imran was preventing an honourable judge from performing her duty.

The application also accused the PTI chief's speech at the party rally of hurting the dignity and sentiments of both the judiciary and the bar, thus requesting for his arrest.

However, Ramna Police Station's SHO Shahid Zaman said that a case has not been registered on the application as the incident occurred in F-9 Park, within the area of Margalla Police Station.

It is pertinent to note that on Saturday the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) imposed a ban on broadcasting Imran Khan's live speeches.

The media watchdog said that the recorded speeches of the ousted PM would only be permitted to be aired after an effective delay mechanism is put in place in order to ensure effective monitoring and editorial control in conformity with Pemra laws.
