Police play major role in flood relief operation
On the orders of Inspector General Police (IGP) Punjab Faisal Shahkar, relief activities carried out by the Punjab Police are in full swing, in order to aid citizens affected by floods in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur.
A Punjab Police spokesperson said that over 1,100 police personnel were deployed to the flood-affected areas of DG Khan, while over 4,700 people trapped by flood water were shifted to safe places by the police. The spokesperson added that during rescue activities, police rescued over 1,700 cattle of local citizens and brought them to safe places.
DG Khan RPO Muhammad Saleem said that 17 Punjab Police relief camps were established to help flood victims and 22 police boat teams were also deployed. The RPO added that the police control room is active in DG Khan to monitor the situation and deliver timely aid to flood victims.
The RPO added that all police transport vehicles are being used to transfer victims, while foolproof security arrangements have been made for families in relief camps.
IGP Shahkar ordered RPOs, DPOs and the additional IG of South Punjab to monitor the situation personally and said that supervisory officers should remain in the field during relief activities.
