On the sixth day of its release, Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chadda continues to sink further in collections, with seventy percent of shows cancelled due to low attendance and the film likely to depart the silver screen soon in the midst of its lukewarm welcome.
After collecting INR 46 crores in its initial four-day run, the collections have plummeted further from expectations on day five. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Laal Singh Chaddha earned in the range of INR 1.85 to INR 2.15 crore, bringing the total collection to INR 48 crore in five days. The collections are even less than what Khan’s last release, Thugs of Hindostan, earned on its opening day in the cinemas. However, Thugs of Hindostan also proved to be a box office failure, showing Khan’s recent works stuck in the shallow end of the box office, being unable to impress either critics or fans.
While Laal Singh Chadda had already faced delayed releases and a social media boycott due to comments Khan has made in the past, no one could have anticipated such a drastic drop in collections, especially for a Forrest Gump remake released around the time of the Indian Independence Day.
Being called Khan’s biggest career setback since the release of Mela, the film is projected to cross the INR 50 crore mark at the end of the first week, finishing its theatrical run at INR 55 to 57 crores. These losses have proved to be monumental, with stakeholders and filmmakers trying to manage the crashing collections the best they can for a film made on a budget of INR 180 crore.
