Eight dead, 25 injured as bus overturns near Sukkur

At least eight were killed and more than 25 sustained injuries when a passenger bus overturned near Sukkur on Tuesday.

As per local police, the accident occurred at the National Highway near Sukkur-Multan Motorway interchange, where a passenger bus overturned, killing six persons on the spot. More than 25 other passengers were also wounded in the accident, among them two died during treatment.

The ill-fated bus was heading to Karachi from Peshawar. Rescue teams reached at the spot after being informed and shifted the dead and injured to a nearby medical facility.

Police said that driver of the ill-fated bus lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a turn on way from motorway to the highway. Resultantly, it fell into a 20-feet deep ravine near the interchange, they said.

Police further said that soon after the incident, Edhi Foundation ambulances and rescue personnel reached the site and shifted the bodies as well as the injured to hospital.

Five people died on the spot while three others succumbed to their injuries later in hospital. Police also expressed the fear that the death toll in the incident might rise.

Meanwhile, 12 injured in bus-truck collision in Nawabshah. At least 12 people were seriously injured in a collision between a bus and a truck at Mehran Coastal Highway Nawabshah on Tuesday morning.

Police said that the condition of two patients was very critical. Police shifted the injured to a nearby hospital. The police said that the accident occurred due to overspending.

Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah has expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious life in a bus accident on Sukkur bypass on Tuesday. The CM has directed the Commissioner Sukkur to provide immediate medical treatment to the injured persons of the accident.
