In a new series of updates, Google is improving accuracy and minimizing the performance impact of background effects in Google Meet.
The online video conferencing platform on the web will have "improved background and foreground separation” that results in “more accurate background blur, background replace, and immersive background and styles.
"The desktop application will begin using cloud processing on devices that are not best designed for running real-time video effects.” The app will automatically adjust between device-based and cloud-based effect processing and offer the best services.
The update also includes improved video quality, which will save up to 30% CPU battery on your device. With Cloud-based processing, users can blur the background, adjust lighting or change the background to a picture.
Cloud-based processing is not available to users with personal Google Accounts, or on Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Enterprise Essentials, Education Fundamentals, Education Plus, Frontline, and Nonprofits, as well as legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers. Northern America, Europe, Northern Africa, Central Asia, and Southeastern Asia are the few places, the feature is available to users.
