Traffic jam

The Korangi Causeway and Crossing Road remained closed for traffic for the third consecutive day due to flooding in Malir River after recent rains in the city.

Korangi Causeway Road and Korangi Crossing Road submerged in water due to flooding in Malir River after heavy monsoon rains in the city. Several vehicles including cars, motorcycles and a fire engine were stuck and dozens of citizens were trapped.

The stranded citizens were rescued by Edhi service teams and other volunteers and shifted them to safe places with the help of local residents.

After the flood situation in Malir River, the traffic police closed Korangi Causeway and Korangi Crossing for traffic and a heavy contingent of police was deployed by erecting barriers on both sides.

Although there has been a reduction in the flow of floodwater in the Malir River, it was still flowing over the causeway. Despite being stopped by the traffic police, the citizens are passing through the Malir River risking their lives.

In this regard, the citizens say that the closure of Causeway and Korangi Crossing for traffic during monsoon rains has been a routine for many years. The government is aware of the problems but no steps are taken to resolve the issue.

Two major routes to and from Korangi are closed putting the pressure of traffic on Jam Sadiq Bridge which leads to traffic jam for hours.

Due to the flooding in the Malir River, vehicles which were washed away, could not be pulled out so far.
