LAHORE:

The 75th Independence Day was celebrated with traditional patriotic zeal and fervour in the provincial capital on Sunday.

The diamond jubilee celebrations of the homeland started with a 21-gun salute, prayers for peace and prosperity of the country and a renewed pledge to make it strong and a true Islamic welfare state as per the vision of the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Two main flag hoisting ceremonies were held at the Governor’s House and Lahore Fort besides various rallies, walks and cake-cutting events in different areas of the metropolis to celebrate the diamond jubilee of the independence of Pakistan.

Punjab Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman hoisted the national flag at the Governor’s House while Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi hoisted the national flag at the Lahore Fort.

The national flag was also hoisted at important public and private buildings across the city.

Addressing the flag hoisting ceremony, Governor Muhammad Balighur Rehman congratulated the nation on the 75th Independence Day of Pakistan. He said every Pakistani should play his role in the development of Pakistan.

The day is not far when terrorism, economic crisis and other problems will end and Pakistan will emerge as an economic and regional power, he maintained.

The governor said he will spare no effort for the development of Pakistan. “Pakistan is a gift of God. It has been achieved after immense sacrifices and struggles of our forefathers. They had to go through rivers of blood and piles of corpses for independence. We have to value and safeguard this blessing of Allah Almighty.

This is only possible if we keep our political affiliations and individual thoughts above the threshold and adopt collective thinking,” he underscored.

In another ceremony at the Governor’s House, the governor distributed certificates of appreciation among the personalities who had rendered valuable services in the fields of education, healthcare, social sector and business for the betterment of the society and development of the country.
