Last day for filing nominations for three NA seats

According to the schedule, the nomination papers can be received and submitted by August 13

KARACHI:

The collection of nomination papers for the by-elections on three National Assembly seats in Karachi continued on Thursday.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Captain (retd) Jameel Ahmed Khan, Akram Cheema, and Shakoor Shad were elected as National Assembly members from NA-237, NA-239, and NA-246 respectively in the 2018 general elections, and by-polls have been announced after the acceptance of their resignations.

In two days, only one independent candidate Muhammad Irshad has submitted his nomination form from NA-246 Lyari, whereas more than 50 nomination papers have been received from candidates of various political parties. The last date for submission of the nomination form is August 13.

Prominent among candidates who are contesting in the by-elections are PTI Chairman Imran Khan, former senator of Pakistan Peoples Party Yousuf Baloch, and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan former MNA Khawaja Sohail Mansoor.

According to the schedule, the nomination papers can be received and submitted by August 13, while the preliminary list of candidates will be released on August 14. The nomination papers will be scrutinised till August 17.

Moreover, August 20 has been fixed as the last date to appeal against the decisions of the returning officers. The decisions of the Appellate Tribunal will be made by August 25, whereas revised lists will be released on August 26. The candidates will be able to decide to withdraw till August 27. Meanwhile, election symbols will be allotted to the candidates by August 29, and polling will be held on all seats on September 25.
