Cop held on gambling charges ‘walks free’
Rana Jawad Wasim, who had been hitherto serving as the Station House Officer of the City Police Station, was arrested on the charges of running a gambling joint at his residence and fabricating a robbery case against his alleged gambling mates.
Police sources said that after performing security duty on the day of Ashur, he allegedly got drunk and lost Rs300,000 during a gambling session with his friends at his residence.
That was a huge amount to lose, and Rana Jawad Wasim in his drunken stupor cooked up a scheme.
He called Rescue 15 and told them that his house in Garden Town was being robbed.
Responding to the supposed distress call, police immediately arrived at Rana Jawad Wasim’s house and arrested Zeeshan Akbar Rajput and Nadeem Akram Arayen.
The accused were interrogated, and what they told the police actually turned the tables on their accuser.
The accused told the police that they were close friends of the “SHO of the City Police Station”, and they often used his residence as a gambling joint where alcohol also flowed in a very jovial environment.
They told the police that after losing a huge amount of money while gambling that day, Rana Jawad Wasim not only staged the drama of robbery, but he also got so mad that he smashed the windscreen and rear windshield of his friend Zeeshan's car.
The DPO of Sahiwal, Sadiq Hussain Baloch, took a stern notice of the incident and ordered registration of a case against all the accused involved in the case.
Sub-Inspector Noor Muhammad has been appointed as the Acting SHO of the City Police Station.
Meanwhile, in a later development Rana Jawad and his two companions have been granted bail.
