ISLAMABAD:

The Republic of Togo is keen to enhance trade relations with Pakistan as both countries have good potential to promote bilateral trade in many areas, said Togo Foreign Minister Robert Dussey.

During his visit to the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Thursday, Dussey said “Togo and Pakistan should develop a mechanism for sustainable development of two-way trade ties to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.”

Pakistan could get better market access to the African region by developing close cooperation with Togo, he said. Togo’s foreign minister highlighted that increased trade between Togo and Pakistan would present a win-win situation to both countries.

He was optimistic that his visit to Pakistan would open many new avenues of promoting trade and economic relations.

Speaking on the occasion, ICCI President Muhammad Shakeel Munir said that Togo is located in West Africa and “Pakistan is focusing on the African region for promoting trade and exports”.

He was of the view that close cooperation between Pakistan and Togo would help in exploiting the potential business opportunities in the African markets.

Munir pointed out that bilateral trade between Pakistan and Togo was not encouraging and stressed the need for encouraging regular exchange of trade delegations to explore all potential areas of mutual cooperation.

ICCI would like to develop close liaison with the chamber of commerce and industry in Togo for promoting business linkages between private sectors of both countries and exchange information about the potential areas of trade cooperation, he added.

The ICCI president said that Pakistan and Togo had good potential to enhance cooperation in agriculture, mining and other sectors for mutual benefit. He hoped that the visit of Togo foreign minister along with a delegation would start a new chapter of growing bilateral trade and economic relations between the two countries.
