CM promises traders the moon
Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has assured the traders and industrialists of immediately solving their problems and appointing a focal person at his office for the purpose.
Speaking to a delegation headed by FPCCI president Irfan Iqbal Sheikh, the CM said that his government, soon after coming into power, had taken steps to promote ease of doing business for the traders in the province. The timing restriction on business has been lifted across the province and permission has been granted to open business centres and shops the whole week, he stated.
He said the government would provide more facilities to the traders and industrialists in the province.
The chief minister said state of the art Special Economic Zones will be set up in the province while following a successful model.
The CM announced that an agro-based economy will be promoted in the province, adding that if the agricultural sector thrives then the economy will be strengthened.
He pledged to take decisions in consultation with all stakeholders. The process of meetings with the traders and industrialists would continue, he added.
He revealed that a focal person will be appointed in the CM Office in order to solve the problems of the traders and industrialists.
The CM resolved to develop the old industrial estates, adding that industrial progress will generate employment opportunities along with strengthening the economy.
Irfan Iqbal Sheikh remarked that the work done during the chief minister’s previous tenure for industrial progress was highly acknowledged. He appreciated the Rescue 1122 and traffic warden systems.
US diplomat
United States Consul General William K Makaneole also called on Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi, congratulated him on becoming the chief minister and expressed good wishes for him.
Both leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, including expanding bilateral cooperation in different sectors. The CM said Pakistan-US relations have witnessed ups and downs and the Punjab government is desirous of maintaining the best relations.
Pakistan is a peaceful country and desirous of friendly relations with neighbouring countries, he added.
