Four head of cattle succumb to LSD in Pindi

RAWALPINDI:

At least four cattle died in Dhamial village due to the infected lumpy skin disease. The disease was previously prevalent in Sindh and has now spread to the Rawalpindi district as well.

The dead animals were taken away from the village with the help of an excavator and buried in a pit.

Residents of the area said that although an employee from the livestock department used to visit to inspect the animals, the infected animals were not properly treated, resulting in the death of four cattle.

The livestock department has started vaccinating animals to protect them from lumpy skin disease. In addition, the livestock department has also directed people to keep affected animals in isolation and quarantine them to save other animals from catching the disease.

Locals expressed fear that the disease may spread to more animals, causing financial loss to the owners. They said that if the dead animals infected with lumpy skin were not buried in deep pits, the foul smell can also spread.

Livestock Department Additional Director Dr Naveed Sahar Zaidi said that the teams of the livestock department were keeping an eye to keep the animals safe from lumpy skin disease. He said that vaccinations were under way and those suffering from the disease were being treated.

He said that awareness was also being provided to farmers regarding the lumpy skin disease and its management.
