PESHAWAR:

As Balochistan reels from the region’s worst floods and torrential rains, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government on Friday dispatched relief material, weighing hundreds of tons, for the people in times of crisis and distress in the province.

Speaking to the media at Peshawar Cantonment Railway Station, the minister for higher education Kamran Khan Bangash said that the recent floods have wreaked havoc in many areas across the country, including several parts of K-P. However, looking at the situation in Balochistan, he said the provincial government decided to provide full aid to the flood victims.

He said the goods would reach the flood-ravaged province within 48 hours, adding that the supplies include tents, blankets, medicines, and other essential items.

The provincial minister said the floods have caused destruction in almost all four provinces and Chief Minister Mahmood Khan himself monitored and made the best arrangements, which were also lauded by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

“It is the praise from the opponents that carries weight. Nonetheless, this is no time for politics. We will continue to help our brothers and sisters in Balochistan,” he stressed.

He further shared that the aid for Balochistan’s flood affectees was being carried out under the directives of party chairman Imran Khan.

Similarly, Kamran Bangash also took the opportunity to acknowledge the services rendered by Rescue 1122 services the PDMA for their “excellent performance” in flood-affected areas in the province.

The relief supplies include 1000 tents, 1000 mats, 1000 hygiene kits, 1000 blankets, 1000 beds, 1000 tarpaulin sheets, 1000 mosquito nets, and 20 de-watering pumps.

In addition, the aid consignment also contains 1000 packages of food items, with each package containing 40 kg of flour, 5 kg of rice, 3 kg of cooking oil, 3 kg of sugar, 2 kg of dal and other essential items.
