RAHIM YAR KHAN:

The residue of recent rains in Rahim Yar Khan has become an ideal breeding ground for flies and mosquitoes.

This is not a welcome development for the people of the district.

The more these insects mushroom the greater the misery it brings to the people of Rahim Yar Khan.

They could have been saved from their miseries had the sewage and garbage disposal system in the district been functioning properly.

The responsibility for the dysfunctional civic system lies fairly and squarely with the local government system.

Even the livestock hasn’t been spared by the menace of flies and mosquitoes.

Complaints from people are piling up at the desks of the officials of the Health Department’s wing tasked with controlling infectious diseases as well as the Municipal Corporation and committees across the district but to no avail.

Mosquitoes and other insects are having a field day, and they are multiplying at an unprecedented rate.

It’s not that the people of Rahim Yar Khan have not had to deal with this menace before.

However, this year they are faced with a deeper predicament. These insects are sucking their blood as never before while the waste management system appears to have gone into an even deeper slumber.

The remains of sacrificial animals and that of those that died due to the lumpy skin disease were thrown in open areas instead of being properly disposed of.

All that waste streamed into low-lying fields during the recent heavy rains and ended up forming ponds of dirty water, an ideal place for breeding of mosquito and flies.

That is the springboard from where they are getting airborne and hovering all over the district. You can’t miss seeing them if you happen to visit the urban areas of the district, its hospitals and even government offices.
