Girls outshine boys in SSC-II exams

None of FDE-run educational institutions could secure top positions

The girl students outshone boys in the secondary school certificate-II annual examinations by bagging all top positions in both science and arts groups as per the results announced by the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) on Wednesday.

Interestingly, none of the educational institutions under the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) Islamabad could make it to the top positions except for one institution which shared the third position in the humanities group.

In the science group, Maryam Khan from Army Public School and College for Girls, Rawalpindi got the first position with 1,096 marks, Fatima Bintay Asad from Army Public School, Rawalpindi and Mahnoor Ali from Joint Staff Public School and College, Rawalpindi stood second with 1,095 marks while Abia Rafique from Army Public School and College, Rawalpindi secured the third position with 1,094 marks.

In the humanities group, Oneeba Shahid from DHA School for Girls, Lahore, got the first position by getting 1,061 marks, Eman Ali from Fauji Foundation College for Girls, Rawalpindi, got the second position by getting 1,058 marks and Maira Bukhari from Islamabad College for Girls, G-10/2, obtained the third position by securing 1,042 marks.

According to the SSC-II results, a total of 110,671 students appeared in the exams and of them, 95,819 could pass exams, with an overall pass percentage of 86.58 per cent.

A total of 100,943 regular candidates appeared in the exams and of them, 90,396 could pass the exams. A total of 9,728 private candidates appeared in the exams and of them, only 5,423 could pass the exam.

In the science group, 89,108 regular candidates appeared in the exams and of them, 80.387 could pass the exams with a pass percentage of 90.21 per cent.

In the humanities group, a total of 11,813 students appeared in the exam out of which 10005 could pass the exam, declaring the pass percentage of 84.69 per cent.

In the technical group, a total of 22 students appeared in the exams and of them, four could pass the exams with a pass percentage of 18.18 per cent.

Among the ex/private candidates, a total of 6,726 students appeared in the science group in exams and of them, 3,893 could pass the exam with a pass percentage of 57.88 per cent.

In the humanities group, a total of 2,997 students appeared in the exams and of them, 1,530 could pass it with a pass percentage of 51.05 per cent.

In the technical group, a total of five students appeared in the exams but none of them could pass the exam.

Meanwhile, Federal Education Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain said on Wednesday that the girls bagging top positions in the SSC-II exams was a matter of pride for the whole country.

Addressing the matriculation results ceremony organised by the FBISE, the federal minister said that "It is heartening to know that the girls took top positions in the science and arts groups in the SSC-II exams as compared to the boys".

Rana Tanveer said that all army-run institutions took the top positions which reflected the quality and standard of education there.

The minister said that the government was focusing on enhancing the quality and standard of education in the country by taking various measures.

FBISE Chairman Qaiser Alam said that FBISE has initiated a series of reforms to transform the examination system which is a prerequisite to raising the standard of education.

He said that digital monitoring systems, e-marking and digital mapping of examination centres and educational institutions were among the few initiatives which were taken by FBISE to improve examination procedures and education standards.
