Woman, minor daughter die as double storey building collapses

KARACHI:

A woman and her minor daughter were killed, while her husband and two other children were injured when a double storey residential building collapsed in Baldia Town on Tuesday.

The building came crashing down near Kakar Hotel, Field Marshal School in Saeedabad, Sector 25/A of Baldia Town.

Five members of the same family belonging to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa were buried under the rubble.

Police, Rangers and Edhi volunteers rushed to the site after receiving the information.

A woman and her minor daughter were pulled out dead from the rubble, while her husband and two other children were injured.

The dead and the injured were shifted to Murshid Hospital in Edhi ambulances where the injured were given first aid.

Later all the casualties were moved to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital. The woman was identified as Azra, 30, wife of Ziaur-Rehman.

Her deceased four-year-old daughter was named as Zoya and injured children as Zainab, nine months' old and Shahidur-Rehman, 20 years' old.

According to police, the upper portion of the house, situated near Saeedabad Route No. 25A bus stop, collapsed with a loud bang.

Local residents claimed that they heard a loud explosion before the building, which was recently constructed, came crashing down.

Police and other agencies are investigating to find out the real cause of the collapse.
