KARACHI:

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Sharjeel Memon on Tuesday commented on the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) verdict in the foreign funding case, saying former premier Imran Khan should be barred for deceiving the public.

In a statement, the Sindh information minister applauded the ECP for delivering the verdict according to the Constitution, without any fear, despite the pressure from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief and his party leaders.

“It has been proven that Imran Khan deceived the public,” said Memon, adding that truth cannot remain concealed for long.

“Imran Khan was given false certificates of sadiq (truthful) and amin (honest) and now the Election Commission has declared his statements as inaccurate,” he said.

“Imran Khan not only toyed with the sentiments of the public but also overseas Pakistanis, just to fill his own pockets,” he added.

He further said that the former prime minister should be declared ineligible to run for office in the next general election.

Memon’s statement comes shortly after ECP’s unanimous verdict which declared that PTI received ‘prohibited funds’ from 34 foreign nationals and 351 companies registered out of Pakistan.
