Flood warning issued for Sutlej, Sindh helpless on 11th day
PDMA says the inundated current in the river will be the biggest in 15 years.
The Meteorological Department issued a flood warning for the River Sutlej on Monday as the water level continued to rise at an alarming rate.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority said that the inundated current will be made up of 80,000 cusecs of water, making it the biggest current in 15 years.
Earlier, several villages located inside and alongside the river had been inundated.
The crops stretching over hundreds of acres in the river bed and along its banks were also submerged.
River Sutlej was also in low flood last week because of heavy rainfall in its catchments and release of water from head works by India.
Flood victims in Sindh remain helpless
Hundreds of villages remain inundated while thousands of people are trapped in flood water in district Badin, Tando Muhammad Khan, Thatta, Mirpur Khas and Tharparker of Sindh.
Rescue operations by the Army, Rangers and civil administrations is underway in the affected districts, but the victims still remain helpless due to a lack of food aid even after the lapse of 11 days.
Additionally, stagnant water in the flood-hit areas is causing malaria and other water-borne diseases.
The district administration increased the number of relief camps to 84 in Tando Muhammad Khan.
