Seeks action by Sindh govt to trace heirs of flood victims

Bodies of flood victims coming downstream are floating near Sukkur Barrage, boomed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh Assembly Parliamentary Leader Khurram Sher Zaman.

As per reports Sukkur Barrage has become the centre point of the bodies of flood victims. At least 21 unidentified dead bodies have been recovered from several gates of Sukkur Barrage within last 10 days.

Moreover, sixteen dead bodies were recovered only in three days, among these dead bodies nine dead bodies were found women. Police have handed over the bodies to Edhi foundation for burial and saved DNA samples for later refrences.

Zaman told the session held with Acting Speaker Rehana Leghari in the chair that authorities have not been able to retrieve bodies floating near Sukkur Barrage. He asserted that the deceased need to be identified and given decent burial.

Mining interests v/s
environment

Sindh government has formed a committee to allay the reservations of the people of the Kanjhoor area of Tharparkar against environmental damage to the area, which is rich in natural beauty.

Sindh Minister of Minerals and Mineral Development Shabbir Bajrani said mining activity is suspended at the Karoonjhar area of Tharparkar due to ongoing protest of the residents.

Answering the various supplementary questions of the members related to the Department of Minerals and Mineral Development in the Sindh Assembly on Monday during the question hour, the minister said that the committee heard complaints and reviewed the concerns of the local people after which it was decided that mining activity will be suspended at Karoonhar for the time being.

We have halted mining activities in view of the agreement between the area residents and in compliance of the court orders, he said, adding that as soon as things are settled, work will resume there.

Bajarani further said that the benefit of granite will be given to local people. According to the information we received, there are 20 million tons of granite from which Rs854.6 million is collected in revenue while Rs480 revenue is received from the production of cement. The government levies taxes based on value, the mining and minerals minister said.

Illegal bus stands

During the proceedings, member of Pakistan People's Party Ghazala Sial inquired as to what steps have been taken to remove illegal bus, rickshaw, truck stands from Sohrab Goth.

Parliamentary Secretary Ghanwer Ali Khan Asrani while responding to the attention notice said, "our department is working on it while the details of the vehicles that have been challaned for the purpose will also be shared."
