ISLAMABAD:

Federal Minister for Commerce Syed Naveed Qamar has stated that Pakistan greatly values its trade relations with the European Union, one of the largest export destinations for Pakistani products.

He said this during meeting with EU Ambassador Dr Riina Kionka at the Ministry of Commerce.

He underlined the importance of GSP Plus scheme for Pakistan’s economy, particularly for the export sector and emphasised that the scheme not only helped in promoting universal values but also created an enabling environment for the implementation of 27 international conventions along with employment opportunities.

Kionka praised the engagement of representatives at the federal and provincial levels during the EU’s GSP+ monitoring mission visit.

It was the fourth biennial review of the GSP Plus. She mentioned that the monitoring mission had shown its satisfaction over Pakistan’s progress on implementing the 27 UN conventions. However, the mission raised some concern over the pending legislations, which needed to be expedited.
