Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi assumed the charge of permanent Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi (KU) on Friday. He replaced Acting VC Prof Dr Nasira Khatoon.
A ceremony was held at the KU where Dr Iraqi formally took over the charge from Dr Nasira. The red carpet was rolled out as staff and students showered rose petals on Dr Iraqi.
"Karachi University is my alma mater, and I consider it my responsibility to bring it at par with the world's top universities," Dr Iraqi said while speaking at the ceremony.
"I am fully aware of the issues that the University of Karachi is facing, but I don't believe that a single person can address these issues independently. Instead, collective efforts are required," he further said.
The new VC further said that his first priority would be to address problems of the administrative and teaching staff members, particularly regular holding of selection boards."
Dr Nasira stated that KU needs an administrator like Dr Iraqi and his selection as the permanent VC was essential for the institution's progress.
