KARACHI:

The overflow of Thado and Lath dams in Gadap Town has caused massive destruction in Scheme 33, flooding societies and roads including the main arteries in the area.

The water has entered more than a dozen residential societies inundating the houses sending a wave of fear among residents who fear huge damage to their houses, vehicles and other valuables.

The flood water has entered Khatm-e-Nabuwwat chowk and Metroville 3 from the back road of Jamia Karachi (Karachi University). The residents of Scheme 33 have called for help from the Sindh government and related authorities.

According to details, Thado and Lath dams overflowed due to recent torrential rains flooding societies in the Scheme 33.

The flooding has also affected the flow of traffic. Many vehicles and motorcycles broke down and the citizens were seen pushing their vehicles to the road side.

Residential societies including PCSIR Society, SBP Society, Karachi University Employed Housing Society, Gwalior Society, Quetta Town, Punjabi Sodagaran Society, Shamsi Residency, Ancholi, Peelibheet Madras Society, Muhammad Khan Goth and other societies are the most affected. The residents of these societies are in a helpless condition.

So far, neither any government official nor the machinery reached to drain out rain water in Scheme 33. The residents of Scheme 33 recalled that due to the overflow of Thado dam in 2013, areas of Saadi Town and Saadi Garden were flooded and the residents had to face massive destruction. Later, the water flow was diverted. Now whenever Thadu and Lath dams overflow the water enters the residential societies.

The residents of the area have demanded that a permanent solution to the situation should be found out. The residents have urged the government to make arrangement for the storage of this flood water instead of letting it go waste.
