A locality, Shanti Nagar, which literally means Land of Peace, saw a gruesome attack on a couple that had contracted marriage out of their free will. Their family could not let them live in peace in Shanti Nagar.
A man, Asad, 35, was stabbed to death, while his wife, Maria, was left critically injured with wounds caused by a sharp object at their home in Shanti Nagar Katchi Abadi on Monday. Police said that as per Maria, her brother had attacked them with a big knife.
Neighbours alerted a rescue service which shifted the body and the injured woman to Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital.
According to Ittehad Town police station SHO Zameer, Asad, 35, was murdered by his brother-in-law, who also injured his sister, Maria, over so called love marriage.
He said that the couple had married about three years ago out of their free will. SHO said that the accused was living with the couple for a sometime and attacked them as soon as he got the chance. After murdering his brother-in-law, he managed to escape from the scene along with his two-year-old nephew.
The deceased Asad belonged to Khairpur Kot DG, Sindh, while Maria was from Sukkur. He further said that Maria had a second marriage with the deceased Asad, and had a kid from her first marriage, who was living with his father.
