Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Parliamentary Leader in Sindh Assembly Khurram Sher Zaman has submitted a resolution in the assembly secretariat, condemning the postponement of the second phase of the local bodies' elections which were scheduled to be held on July 24.
The resolution demands that the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioner Sindh should resign.
After submitting the resolution, Zaman spoke to the media at the assembly's media corner. He said that all political parties were conducting their campaigns for the LB elections when the same were postponed without consulting anyone.
"The elections were postponed on the pretext of rain. In fact, they were postponed under a plan to rig them because everyone knows that the PTI would sweep the second phase. We reject the ECP decision," he claimed. He further said that the ECP did not care about the tax payers' money.
Zaman said that the PPP and the MQM were afraid of a PTI mayor. He called upon both the parties to clarify their positions.
The PTI leader said that postponing the election was equivalent to systematic rigging. "Ballot papers have already been dispatched to all DROs. These DROs will stamp the ballot papers and stuff them in the ballot boxes.
This is a blatant rigging scheme," he said. "We will go to the courts against the ECP," he added.
Zaman recalled how his party struggled for the LB elections in Sindh where people are deprived of basic facilities. He said that his party had also called for an amendment in the provincial local government law, but the PPP ignored it. He claimed that PTI candidates for LB elections were kidnapped in Sindh.
Zaman further said that his party would stage a protest outside the ECP office at 4pm on Friday.
He invited other political parties to join their protest.
