Govt moves Nepra for Rs7.91 tariff hike

It is proposed that basic electricity tariff for distributing companies including K-E, be increased in three phases

ISLAMABAD:

The federal government has submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to raise the electricity tariff by Rs7.91 in order to ensure a uniform power charges across the country.

Nepra will hear the government’s request on Wednesday (today). The authority, after conducting the hearing, will communicate its decision to the federal government for the issuance of a notification.

In the application, it is proposed that the basic electricity tariff for all distributing companies (DISCOs) including the Karachi Electric (K-E), be increased in a three phases – Rs3.50 per unit from July, other Rs3.50 from August and Rs0.91 per unit hike from October.
