Ex-policeman turns out to be owner of collapsed building

The owner of the six-storey residential building that collapsed in Musa Colony area on Monday morning turned out to be a former police officer.

Investigators found that the former police officer, Amir Baba, had built the apartment building four months ago. The police officer has been on the run since the collapse of the building in which poor quality construction material was used.

The building collapsed in the jurisdiction of Gulbarg police station, but luckily there were no casualties because the police had evacuated the residents a day before. However, an adjacent double storey building was also damaged while a PMT of K-Electric installed in front of the building was damaged.

Imtiaz Tanoli, SHO Gulberg police station, said that poor materials were used in the building which was constructed on a plot measuring 40X100 square yards. Four apartments and a shop in the building had been sold out, while one flat was owned by another former police officer and one was vacant.

SHO Tanoli said that they were making efforts to arrest Baba, who has been on the run since the building collapse.

No one has registered a case yet, but the SHO said that if any former resident of the building wanted to register a case should contact the police station. He said that the affected residents were demanding financial compensation.

SHO Tanoli said that an operation has been started to remove the debris of the collapsed residential building, while the adjoining double storey building would also be demolished after the removal of debris.
