President for taking steps to facilitate chemical industry
President Arif Alvi has said that in the current economic situation and taking into account the prospects of development in the country’s chemical industry, immediate steps are indispensable to ensure ease of doing business for the industry.
Speaking at the inauguration of a two-day exhibition and conference titled “Pakistan Chemical Expo 2022” organised by the Pakistan Chemical Manufacturers Association (PCMA), the president said that despite the vast size of the chemical industry, the number of factories working in the sector was limited.
Appreciating the role of stakeholders in strengthening the government-industry linkages, he assured them of support of the government for the development and promotion of the industry. Speaking on the occasion, PCMA Chairman Jahangir Piracha said chemical was the third fastest growing industry in the world. Despite its international importance, the opportunities found in Pakistan could not be utilised, he lamented.
He said PCMA was engaged in efforts to introduce bio-economy projects along with advocating long-term petrochemical projects to utilise the available resources.
He appealed to the government to formulate a coherent and effective chemical policy in consultation with all stakeholders for the development of chemical industry. PCMA Senior Vice Chairman Haroon Ali Khan said the purpose of organising the exhibition was to highlight the potential of trade and investment in the domestic and international chemical industry.
He emphasised that the exhibition would provide a platform to bring chemical-related sectors closer and create new opportunities for joint ventures. More than 100 domestic and international companies are participating in the exhibition. Research and educational institutions related to chemicals are also participating in the expo.
