Police register murder case of robbers' lynching

ASI files FIR on behalf of state against citizen who shot dead an injured suspect

KARACHI:

Police have registered a murder case regarding the lynching of two suspected robbers by a mob which caught them while they were fleeing after looting a mobile phones shop in Federal B Area Block 3 on Saturday evening.

One of the suspects was shot by an unidentified man after both were beaten up by the mob. He died during treatment at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The two suspected robbers were caught red-handed by local residents in Federal B Area, Block 3, according to Azizabad police.

The police registered a case under Sections 302 and 324 on the complaint of ASI Muhammad Qasim, who sated in the FIR that he was on patrol in the area when he received information that a mob was beating up two suspected robbers.

According to him, when he reached the site along with other police officers, the mob had already dispersed while the two suspects, identified as Azam and Qasim, were lying injured on the road. A 30-bore handgun and two bullets were recovered from one of the suspects.

Azam admitted in his statement that he and his accomplice were in the area to commit a robbery when local residents caught them and started beating them. In the meantime, an unknown person came with a handgun and shot Qasim and escaped. They were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where Qasim died during treatment, while Azam was referred to Jinnah Hospital.

The police registered a case under Sections 302 and 324 against the unknown man, while another case was registered against Azam for carrying an illegal weapon as he could not produce a license for his handgun.
