Mother of eight slain by husband
A mother of eight children was murdered by her husband in Sikandar Goth on Super Highway on Sunday. The suspect, who is also cousin of the victim and lived at his in-laws house, had also attacked his wife two months ago in which she was seriously injured.
According to details, the suspect fired shots at the victim before slitting her throat with a knife at their house in Sector L/13, Mohalla Sikandar Goth, Scheme-33 of Sachal area. The victim's body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
A Karachi police spokesperson identified the victim as 35-year-old Shazia Bukhari, daughter of Syed Ghulam Akbar Shah, and the suspect as Syed Shahid Iqbal Bukhari. The victim was mother of eight children, including six girls and two boys. The family belonged to Muzaffargarh, in Punjab.
Zahid, a maternal uncle of the victim said that Shazia's parents had bought their son-in-law three vehicles for business, but he sold them one by one. Now, he also wanted to sell his in-laws house, for which he often tortured Shazia, he said.
Zahid further claimed that the suspect had also tried to kill Shazia on May 12 this year by cutting her throat with a knife, but luckily she survived. The family approached the Sachal police with a complaint of the previous attack, but the police did not register the case after taking bribe from the suspect, he claimed.
If the police had arrested Shahid at that time, Shazia might have been with her children today, he said. After the May 12 incident, the suspect did not come home, but called his wife to threaten her with serious consequences.
According to Zahid, the suspect entered the house through the grill at around 2:30 on the night between Saturday and Sunday. First he tortured Shazia, then shot her before slitting her throat with a knife. Three to four accomplices of the suspect were present outside the house at the time of crime.
The suspect and his accomplices managed to escape after the crime. Shazia was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The victim's parents have been informed in Muzaffargarh.
