KARACHI:

The downpour on Sunday evening caused urban flooding in many areas of the city.

Reeling from the earlier bout of monsoon, the city was battered by the short yet power spell of rain that caused the sewers and storm water channels to over flow.

Sewage mixed rainwater entered homes in low-lying areas while many people took refuge on rooftops to escape the deluge.

A boy was killed by lightning in a suburban area of the city. Meanwhile, in Shadman Town, a family on a motorcycle fell into a drain, the man was taken out in a state of unconsciousness, while the body of the woman was also taken out after several hours of efforts. The search for their child was going on, rescue workers told The Express Tribune.

The nullah in the Shadman Town was overflowing and it was difficult to differentiate etwen the road and the fast flowing storm drain. Being dark and raining, the family fell into the drain. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Friday had forecast heavy rains on Sunday and Monday.
