Quetta police recover two missing girls

They, along with a woman, had gone missing from Darul Aman during Eid holidays

QUETTA:

Police on Friday recovered two girls who had gone missing from Quetta shelter house during Eid holidays.

A woman and two girls suddenly disappeared from the Darul Aman in Quetta city during Eid holidays and the staff claimed that they had escaped.

Police said that the woman was brought to shelter house after she was divorced by her husband while the two others were unmarried girls.

“A joint team of police and Balochistan Social Welfare Department successfully recovered the two girls,” Secretary of Social Welfare, Abdul Latif Kakar said while talking to The Express Tribune.

Secretary Social Welfare had formed a three-member inquiry committee to investigate the matter.

The committee comprised Muhammad Hassanullah, the Director-General of Social Welfare Department Balochistan, Juma Khan Durrani, the Principal Balochistan Disabled Complex Education, and Ms Farghana Rubbi, the Directorate of Human Rights Balochistan.

“Efforts are on to locate the woman,” Kakar said. The department has also submitted a preliminary report to the Chief Secretary Balochistan, Abdul Aziz Uqaili.

The Quetta Darul Aman houses over 30 women. Most of the women are widows from Quetta and other parts of Balochistan.

“Our main objective is to provide protection to these women and make them useful citizens of society,” the secretary said.

Police have also taken a female warden of the Darul Aman into custody for helping the three women escape.

“We are interrogating a lady warden in this regard,” a senior police official told The Express Tribune.

He requested anonymity since he was not authorized to speak to the media.

Police recovered the two girls identified as Gul Bano, 13 and Zahra, 18. However, Shazia, 30, is still missing.
