ECP released strict code of conduct for second phase of local government elections in Sindh

KARACHI:

The Election Commission has written a letter, requesting the deployment of army and Rangers in view of security threats during the second phase of local body elections in Sindh.

A letter written by Sindh Election Commissioner Ijaz Anwar Chauhan to the Secretary Election Commission quoted that a security situation had arisen in the first phase of local body elections held in the province, while presence of law and order is indispensable for fair and transparent elections.

ECP has released a strict code of conduct for the second phase of local government elections in Sindh and banned large political rallies and car rallies in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Thatta.

According to details, ECP has barred political parties from holding large rallies for the second phase of local body elections, saying candidates and political parties would only be allowed to hold corner meetings.

The new code of conduct also prohibits holding car rallies in local elections. Flags will also be banned on government buildings and poles.

Meanwhile, the district monitoring Officers have sent the fresh code of conduct to political parties and candidates, while instructions have also been issued to deputy commissioners for strict implementation of the same.

Letters have also been sent to the concerned district administrations by the monitoring teams of the Election Commission.
