Two killed in Swabi roof collapse

Local residents have demanded of the district administration to declare the village calamity hit

Two people were killed and three injured in a roof collapse incident in Swabi district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Saturday.

In Sikandari village a woman and her six-year-old daughter were killed when the roof their room collapsed suddenly during torrential rains. Her two sons and mother-in-law were injured.

“All of them were taken out under the debris by the Rescue 1122 teams as well as local resident but the mother and daughter were dead. The injured were shifted to hospital where their condition is stated to be critical,” said an official of Rescue 1122 while talking to The Express Tribune.

“The house was not made of mud but still the roof of the house caved in under the pressure of standing water during heavy rainfall,” he said, adding that the torrential rains played havoc in the Tanda Kohi union council as the entire village was left inundated in the rain water.

“Five sacrificial animals were killed in one house in the village. The flash floods swept away household goods and destroyed food stores resulting in the severe shortage of food items,” he said.

Local residents have demanded of the district administration to declare the village calamity hit.

Due to flash floods Topi-Zaida Road remained closed for several hours for traffic.

Rescue workers managed to rescue eight vehicles caught in the flood.
