Canada’s largest mobile and internet provider Rogers has suffered a major outage that affected banks, emergency service hotlines, transport and other services.

Rogers dominates Canada’s telecom space. Hence a major outage in their network affected almost every facet of life in the country. The company started recovering the system after the outage lasted for almost 19 hours on friday.

The massive outage affected different government operations, banking and ATM services, internet access, cell phone and landline phone connections and transportation. As per reports, it also affected Canada’s Canada's ArriveCAN app which is used for border control.

In a statement Rogers Communications said, “We know how important it is for our customers to stay connected”. The company has added a message on its website which said that the services are starting to recover as the technical team is working hard to get everyone back online as quickly as possible.

The cause of the outage is unknown as of now but it has happened for the second time in the last 15 months. According to BBC, Rogers is the mobile carrier of nearly 11 million Canadians. After the outage, 75 percent of the internet traffic dropped.

The vice-president of Rogers told CBC that they are not exactly sure when the problem will be completely solved as the company is still trying to figure out the “root cause”.
