Judge seeks arguments on FIA report in Aamir Liaquat video case
The South district and sessions judge sought arguments on the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) report from the lawyer of the petitioner seeking action, under the Cyber Crimes Act, against Dania Shah, the ex-wife of well-known television anchor and politician Aamir Liaquat Hussain.
The petition was heard on Wednesday before at the Karachi City Court. The FIA submitted its reply in the case, maintaining that the petitioners were not affected parties. "No request for action against Dania Shah has been received from the family of Aamir Liaquat Hussain," the FIA report maintained. It added that uploading private photos or videos to someone is a serious crime.
"The FIA has the power to prosecute cybercrime, but the petitioner does not meet the criteria of the aggrieved party," the FIA argued in its report. It continued that no evidence has been provided regarding the video claimed by the petitioner. The petitioner is not competent to lodge the complaint," the FIA report maintains, urging the court to reject the petition.
The court adjourned the hearing of the petition till July 14 and sought arguments from the petitioner's counsel on the FIA report at the next hearing.
The petition has been filed by a social welfare organisation in the sessions court. The petitioner requested the court to order the FIA to take action against Dania Shah. Dania made Aamir Liaquat Hussain's private videos go viral on social media.
In an interview given to a private channel that went viral on social media, Dania Shah accused her husband of cocaine addiction and added that he also forced her to consume the drug. “He threatened to divorce me for my refusal to take the drug. In a bid to avoid his obnoxious behaviour, I used to pretend taking the drug along with him,” accused Dania.
“Laiquat servants would arrange cocaine for him, hence, they were more important to him than me,” said Dania.
