Stoke rescue a point in Premier League
Late Malouda goal gets Villas-Boas his first win at Chelsea.
NORWICH:
Stoke City striker Kenwyne Jones hit a stoppage-time equaliser to rescue a 1-1 draw against 10-man Norwich City at Carrow Road.
Paul Lambert’s newly-promoted team were on course for victory in their first home top-flight match since 2005 when on-loan Manchester United defender Ritchie de Laet scored just before half-time. Although Stoke missed a penalty in the second half, they finally levelled thanks to Jones’ header in the closing moments.
Elsewhere in the league, Wolverhampton recorded three points against Fulham in a 2-0 win at home, courtesy of goals from Kevin Doyle and Matt Jarvis, in what proved to be a physical encounter at The Molineux. The win means Mick McCarthy’s men have taken maximum points from their two Premier League matches so far.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s new manager Villas-Boas tasted competitive victory for his new club for the first time when Chelsea came back from behind to beat West Bromwich Albion 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.
Albion had led 1-0 at half time thanks to an early goal from Shane Long, the Republic of Ireland forward, and many Chelsea supporters booed the home team off at the break.
Chelsea revived to win the game through goals from Nicolas Anelka and substitute Florent Malouda, to get four points from two games.
