Police bust gang looting DHA homes

The Darakhshan Investigation Police busted a five-member gang involved in burglaries in homes in the upscale locality of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) and recovered gold jewellery, watches, mobile phones and other valuables from their possession.

As per police the gang had rented a quarter in DHA for recce of the nearby homes. They used to break into bungalows while inmates were not at home and stole cash, jewellery, watches and other valuables.

Moreover, one of the gang members would secure a job as driver or watchman and help his accomplices enter the house.

Continued cases of house breaking had left the residents of the area disturbed and they filed complains to higher authorities of the police.

Subsequently, South Zone DIG Sharjeel Kharal formed a team headed by SSP South Investigation Dr Imran. The police investigation team found out that the accused lived in a DHA house, go out at night and steal valuables.

The police party raided the bungalow on Sunday morning and arrested five members of the gang and recovered gold bangles, rings, bracelets, chains, earrings, expensive watches, mobile phones and other items.

According to Darakhshan police station Senior Investigation Officer Rao Rafique, the arrested accused include Sakhawat Gopang, Abid, Shahbaz Khan, Kamran and Imran.

The suspects used to commit the crime after getting a job as a driver, butler and watchman in the adjoining bungalows. More than 12 cases of burglary have been registered against the accused in different police stations.

The arrested accused have also committed robberies and kidnappings in Rahim Yar Khan's Kacha areas. They had been living in hiding in Karachi for the last one year.

The five arrested accused are habitual criminals.
