Uplift schemes: PTI MPAs in Punjab left out
The District Development Committee Rawalpindi on the directives of the Punjab government has excluded 298 new and 110 ongoing development schemes of six MNAs and 14 MPAs of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insas belonging to the Rawalpindi district.
These schemes included the construction of three new degree colleges, five major water supply schemes, eight new schools, parks, two hospitals and linking bridges etc.
PTI members have announced to challenge the move in the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench.
Some of these development schemes had been initiated by the PTI members from the members’ funds. While funds for more than half a dozen of the ongoing schemes have also been returned to the Punjab government.
PTI MPA Haji Amjad Mehmood and former minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan told The Express Tribune that a constitutional petition has been prepared against the move which will be filed in the high court on July 1.
MPA Haji Amjad Mahmood said that they had approved three new girls' and boys' colleges in the areas of PP-1, Kotha Kalan-I, Kotha Kalan-II and Gorakhpur. The land had also been allotted and funds had been released.
He said that the new water supply schemes costing over Rs367 million, sewerage schemes and two hospital projects had been approved but now the district administration has not only excluded them on the orders of the Punjab government but also cancelled the ongoing development schemes and withdrawn their funds. “The Punjab government is now seeking proposals from its political activists and local government candidates for allocating funds for their schemes,” he said.
He said that the provincial government should seek proposals for new schemes from their workers but it should not cancel our schemes. “These are public welfare projects. We will not compromise on them under any circumstances. We expect justice from the court,” he said
Ghulam Sarwar said that schemes worth Rs6 billion allocated for the construction of dams, hospitals, colleges, universities, new schools, water supply and sewerage systems have been excluded in the district which was reprehensible.
