The Mutahida Qaumi Movement has rejected media reports that the party will announce joining the treasury benches on Sunday.
Reliable sources in the party refuted these claims terming them as “mere speculation”. Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) officials said although much is being written in newspapers and said on television, the party has not made a final decision in this regard as yet.
The officials however acknowledged that the MQM’s return on treasury benches is inevitable for the continuation of the democratic process in the country. They said that their party has even conveyed this message to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) but it is too early to give an exact time frame. It may happen after Eid, they said.
MQM officials also said that the party is in talks with the PPP at various levels and that President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani have had discussions with MQM chief Altaf Hussain.
The party’s spokesperson, Wasay Jalil, told The Express Tribune that currently, restoring peace in Karachi is the most important thing for the MQM. “The deteriorating law and order situation in the city has surpassed any other issue,” he said.
Meanwhile a high-level meeting on the law and order situation in the city was held at Sindh Governor House on Sunday. Governor Eshratul Ebad chaired the meeting which was attended by Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Home Minister Manzoor Hussain Wassan, Sindh Chief Secretary Raja Muhammad Abad, Additional Chief Secretary Home Waseem Ahmed, IG Sindh Wajid Ali Durrani, Acting Director General Rangers and Additional Inspector General Sindh Saud Mirza.
The governor was briefed by the home minister on the current situation. The governor asked police officials to provide lists of wanted criminals to all station house officers and directed them to ensure the recovery of missing people.
“People want peace and it is the government’s responsibility to ensure their safety and maintenance of law and order,” he said.
He said that the police should take action against criminal elements irrespective of their political affiliations and added that the government has taken all political parties on board.
“These recent incidents have damaged the reputation of the law enforcement agencies especially the police. The police must regain its lost reputation and respect among the public,” he said.

ET allowing comments criticising MQM? Amazing!
No principles only power needed>>>>>>This is MQM
@Salahuddin Johar: Correction: At present every corrupt party is in power
@Salahuddin Johar: Yes, but not mandate to take lives of innocent people.
MQM be careful. The PPP has laid the Golden Traps against you by bringing you back in the Government. The PPP has been taking from you more to force you to go out of the government and then gives you some to bring you back in the government again & again & again to damage your credibility/image so that you lose your vote bank in the Sindh generally and not to be successful in other parts of the Pakistan particularly. Be careful, MQM your image is being tarnished. PPP should show by the positive actions practically & honestly not by the fooling words of so called reconciliation (mafahimat) policy.
you would find super power behind him, ,,,,,,,,,have friends but those, who supervise its interests.abroad.
National leaders,be alerted, military government is expected, ways are going to open, and the general in exiled will come, please wait.
express tribune please make a fix logo with statement....MQM rejoins cabinet.....MQM goes out of cabinet...because its a daily practice by MQM....one qestuion to all....are MQM educated ethical political party after that
@ Mohammad Ali Siddiqui, Sir, your comments are biased and untrue. 1970 electons were held not only for forming government, they were held to write new constitution and Sheikh Mujib wanted his Six points to be the basis of new constitution. Please read those Six Points, (perhaps for the first time), you will know that no politician who wanted united Pakistan would agree on those Six Points. Bengalis did not want to live with rest of Pakistan, it was true then and its still true now. Their independence was written on the wall. Nobody could have stopped it. Its a great insult and intellectual dishonesty to call a nations freedom struggle a treason, especially when they have sacrificed millions of lives for the cause. If Bhutto is responsible for breakup, then why he is not a Hero for Bengalis. Secondly Mr. Bhutto had no authority at that time, it was Military Government and Generals who were running the show. If Bhutto was more powerful than Generals, then why he failed to save his own life.
@Mohammad Ali Siddiqui: Rightly so. Without the support of Punjabis, nobody can survive in the Federal. Thats why I say that Pakistan was created for some handful of mean people. Not for us!
@Mubashir Amin: Actually, it will never. Because, it was never the ideology of Pakistan to be a single nation. Because if Pakistan really became one nation, how will the establishment rule!?!
At Present Every Party in Power . Then Why not MQM having mandate of Urban Sindh .
it good if the violence of city will end, why not every good work should be appriciated for better PAKISTAN.
It is sad beyond measure how devoid of care these politicians are for the problems facing the common man, with no exception. All these parties come on tv and sttess that a political solution is necessary to halt the massacre in khi as it is a turf war. By saying this they are openly admitting that they are responsible for these murders and should be tried in international courts. I didn't say pak courts as their decision won't be accepted or implemented by the govt or a presidential pardon will be issued for the guilty and next year awarded with 'nishan e imtiaz'.
It is an established fact that no government can rule in Sindh without the coalition and support of MQM.
Thanks to Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto (Shaheed) who enforced quota system in the country which becomes the primary factor for the MQM to come into existence and swept under the carpet Jamat-e-Islami from Karachi and Sindh since then.
The credit also goes to Mr. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto (Shaheed) for breaking the country by saying that “idhar ham udar tum”.
Had he offered Sheikh Mujib-ur-Rehman to form the government after Awami Muslim League won the elections in the country in majority, Bangladesh would have not been created on the world map in 1971.
Bhutto Sahib wanted to rule the country forever and this is why he enforced quota system after East Pakistan became Bangladesh to please the Punjabis.
President Asif Ali Zardari is a shrewd politician and he knows very well that if he will not take MQM into his fold, tomorrow MQM may ask to make Karachi a separate province.
I wish that all political parties should join hands in fighting the menace of terrorism from the country as well as to eradicate poverty and increase the percentage of literacy.
Tired of writing new comments. Can you please use the comments, which I wrote when MQM joined government one hundred eleventh time.
Needless to say they are joining in National interest and for peace in Karachi.
What fakes..................................it is all about being in power and enjoying fruits of power
@Cityboy: Yes you are right. THey all are 'madarees' showing tamasha to the nation with their 'dugdugi' making fool of everyone
They'll quit again before elections.
MQM likely to Re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re join cabinet, should be the title of this news article
Pakistan politics is full of clowns, more entertaing than a circus.
Didnt ET gave the same news a week ago? With MQM 'almost certain' to rejoin the cabinet on Wednesday last
So what is the news? It would have been news, had MQM showed some character and fought the temptation to revert to power corridors. It ministers will be back enjoying the perks, while its supporters continue paying the price daily with their own lives. Congratulations Altaf Bhai and MQM.
Shall we hope that they shall quit again very soon only to rejoin the Government again!n What is going on in this unfortunate country. We are plagued with serious challenges and our leadership is busy making and breaking alliances the year round.
When shall this country become a Nation?
