SHC extends stay on autopsy of Aamir Liaquat

The Sindh High Court (SHC) has extended the stay order on a petition of the legal heirs of anchor person and politician Aamir Liaquat Hussain for not exhuming the body for conducting his postmortem.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar ordered Abdul Ahad, the man who had filed petition to exhume the body of Aamir Liaquat and conduct postmortem, to appear at the next hearing.

The bench heard the petition for stopping the autopsy of prominent anchor person and politician Aamir Liaquat at the request of his legal heirs.

The legal heirs of Aamir Liaquat and their counsel Zia Awan appeared in court. However, Abdul Ahad remained absent.

Meanwhile, SSP East and SHO Brigade filed a reply in court. SSP East is his response said that on June 9, he learnt through the SHO Brigade police station that Aamir Liaquat Hussain had passed away. The report was received from a private hospital.

The body was later shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, but the heirs requested that the body be moved to Chhipa morgue because their son had to come from London. Police wanted to conduct an autopsy under section 174 but were informed that Aamir Liaquat's son Ahmed Aamir and daughter Dua Aamir did not want to get an autopsy done.

Subsequently, the SSP said, police followed the court orders and did not conduct an autopsy. He said police had filed a petition in the court of East Judicial Magistrate seeking an inquiry into the cause of death of Aamir Liaquat Hussain.
