Bookies taking bet on pigeon racing in Jhelum
Betting on pigeon racing has been causing immense misery and mental anguish to the citizens of Jhelum.
It has been learnt that many people in Jhelum city as well as its suburbs have made it their daily practice to gamble on pigeon racing.
Citizens have complained that pigeons that lose their way or get tired often take rest on the roofs of different houses. To get their birds back, the pigeon owners enter these houses without permission and with utter disregard for the residents' privacy.
The complete fearlessness with which these gamblers break into private residences is a source of severe mental anguish for the occupants.
Citizens have demanded that District Police Office Jhelum take immediate notice of the situation and initiate a crackdown against those engaging in betting on pigeon racing.
The inaction of the local police in this regard was also lamented, as the illegal sport has gone on for a long time without any fear of consequences.
Law-abiding citizens are also despairing the unfortunate reality of their children following suit and indulging in the vicious cycle of gambling on pigeon racing.
Pigeon enthusiasts involved in betting can be seen lounging on several rooftops as well as roaming freely in the streets.
The affected citizens have demanded that the district police officer register cases against the pigeon gamblers.
