Timber containers being released from ports
A tripartite agreement has been reached between Pakistan Customs, Department of Plant Protection and Karachi Timber Merchants Association on the import of timber and its products.
As a result of this agreement, the customs has started clearing the timber containers imported from the US and European countries that were detained at Karachi Port and Port Qasim.
The clearance of the timber consignments was stopped by the customs authorities after the government imposed the condition of producing phytosanitary certificates.
Due to the delay in customs clearance, 224 containers were stranded at both the ports.
Under the agreement, the consignments of imported timber that had reached Pakistan before June 16 will be cleared.
