ISLAMABAD:

Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL), an associated company of the Fauji Foundation, has announced a gas discovery in the Bannu West Block, located in the North Waziristan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

“The discovery is of significant importance for Pakistan and is a step towards building the energy security of the country,” said Mari Petroleum in a statement on Monday.

The well was initially tested at a rate of around 25 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) and 300 barrels per day (bpd) of condensate.

“A post-acid clean-up well test has now been conducted to better understand the well’s behaviour and expected improvement in its performance,” it said.

“The new test rates are 50 mmscfd of gas and 300 bpd of condensate. These results have further established the confidence in the discovery and additional potential in this area.”

MPCL said the company, together with its joint venture partners Oil and Gas Development Company and Zaver Petroleum Corporation, was developing the appraisal programme and plan to bring the discovery to early production.
