BHC suspends ECP’s notification for LG polls in Quetta
The Balochistan High Court (BHC) on Monday suspended the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) notification for holding local government elections for the Metropolitan Corporation and District Council in Quetta.
A division bench of the BHC comprising Justice Muhammad Kamran Mullakhail and Justice Nazeer Ahmed Langove passed the order on a constitutional petition filed by senior lawyer Advocate Attaullah Langove.
The ECP senior law officer (SLO) and the district election commissioner submitted a detailed report about the Census Block Code (CBC) before the court about the urban and metropolitan areas.
The bench, however, directed them to submit a detailed report about the rural areas of Quetta district.
The Balochistan government conducted local government elections on May 29 in 32 districts of the province. Elections were not held in Quetta and Lasbela district because of delimitation issues.
The court had also suspended the holding of elections in Huramzai tehsil and Zhob municipal corporations.
